Kindergarten

At Fort Worth Country Day, our youngest Falcons feel loved and supported in their daily activities, challenged in their learning, and proud of their school and themselves. It all begins during that very first week of school when parents drive up to the Butler Kindergarten Building during morning carpool and our FWCD teachers and their assistants help students out of their cars and guide them inside to begin their educational journeys. Within the building, whimsically decorated classrooms provide students with a safe and comfortable new “home away from home.” FWCD teachers inspire a passion to learn right from the start. Through emphasis on the discovery of new concepts and the development of problem-solving skills, they meet students where they are and give them the chance to grow in both independence and creativity.

Our nurturing kindergarten team provides what many parents describe as a magical first year of school for their children. Centered on multisensory instruction through stations, small-group and one-to-one lessons, the FWCD kindergarten experience is an experience like no other.

We use a phonetic-based approach when teaching reading and writing. The strategies teachers use help develop understanding, accuracy, fluency and vocabulary. An expansive Leveled Reading Library provides a balanced approach to literacy and supports instruction at all reading levels.
